- My book club meets the second Monday of every month. When did I show up? The second Tuesday. The poor host’s husband answered the door and was all confused. I just thought I was the first one there. She was very sweet — and I wasn’t too terribly embarrassed.
- Christmas is so much more fun now that there’s Bridget. She loved picking out a tree (she tried to hug all the little trees). She’s entranced by the Christmas lights. I could tell that she was a little confused when we brought the tree inside and started putting the lights on it, but once we plugged them in she said, "Oooooh!" It was perfect.
- At the grocery store some time this week, I almost broke down crying: they were playing The Marvelous Toy over the sound system. I am such a sap. My brother and I used to make Dad play us that song when we were little.
We got a call from the hospital today that their last audit showed that they had made an error (DUH), and we don’t owe them anything. Glad we got that settled.
It only took a few months, and lots and lots of phone calls.
The county came and cut the grass next door this morning. It’s a good thing, too. It was seriously out of control. I suppose it’s not a unique story in Northern Virginia — overpay for a house (and they did) on an adjustable rate or interest only loan (just guessing) and be overextended and either file bankruptcy or face foreclosure. Looking at the recent sales in our neighborhood, there are a lot of banks taking ownership. Good times.
So we have now completed our second server move in two weeks, and everything has calmed down. The email is working properly (it’s a step in the right direction that it’s working at all after our last hosting service), I’ve got some other programs working properly (I had some issues with other things that I have hosted, but finally got those all worked out), and all the databases are working correctly.
Everything should be propagated and if you email us, it will get to us now. Thanks to lunarpages for the reliable hosting at a reasonable price. We’ll have to see how well it goes over the long term, but it certainly couldn’t be any worse.
Anyway, like Jess said, Bridget went on her first plane ride over the weekend. Pictures can be found in the gallery, both in the Bridget gallery (for just the pictures of Bridget) and the family gallery that includes all of the sightseeing pictures and pictures of the rest of the family.
So the hosting move didn’t work out as planned. I’ve changed everything back to the old server now. The only thing that could be a problem is our email. If your local DNS hasn’t updated their cache, then you could get some bouncebacks until it’s resolved. It should be fine in a day or so. Sorry about this. At some point we may be switching again, but that was such a horrendous experience, I’m willing to deal with some email problems for a while.
We were having some severe email problems with our old host, who decided they just weren’t going to try to fix them, so we’ve moved our hosting. It’s in the middle of propagation right now, so you may or may not be seeing this. There may also be some problems along the way. I’ll fix them as soon as I can.
Wonderful, isn’t it?
It’s been a while since I’ve had time to gather my thoughts.
The past few weeks have been rough. We have been getting very little sleep since the Christmas Miracle. Getting her to sleep at 7pm at night isn’t so difficult it’s staying asleep past 10 and going back to sleep at 12, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 that’s difficult. I don’t want to jinx anything, but it seems like she’s getting back to her old 7-10 calming quickly then sleeping to 3 eating and then sleeping until 6 routine. That I can deal with. Last night and the night before were better.
I’d really been stressing out about it. So much, in fact, that my eczema is flaring pretty horribly. Sort of randomly, I came across this post by Claire at Loobylu and it and the comments made me feel so much better. I mean, I knew that I just needed to calm the eff down and relax and just roll with it (even the ped. told me that!), but somehow knowing that so many other people are dealing and have dealt with the exact same thing made me so relieved.
Bridget has just yesterday started both sitting up by herself and officially crawling. That is, no longer thrusting herself forward onto her stomach repeatedly but real honest to god one hand one knee the other hand the other knee crawling across the floor.
It’s a good thing we got a new computer because the Dell died today. It’s also a good thing that we’ve moved just about all the files that we needed because it was the hard drive that went. There might have been a few things that got lost — but the vast majority of it got saved. The new Mac is pretty awesome by the way. There have been several kinks in the setup, but it’s nothing that we can’t live with. Now, we really have no choice.
However, in my hurry to get out of work (more on that later), I forgot to bring home some software that I needed that did get lost. It will just have to wait until Monday when I’m back in the office. I think I can hold out until then.
I was in a hurry because today was Bridget’s first day at daycare. She’s going to a nice home daycare just 5 minutes from the house. Today, she had the full attention of Mrs. Marie. It was a little bit nutso trying to get out of the house this morning. Of course I couldn’t bring myself to get up at 5:20am, and slept in just a little (5:40. Woo Hoo!). Then the milk for her bottles wasn’t totally defrosted and so we were late getting showers. And of course it was pouring down rain and it was the first day of school for all the neighborhood kids. But we made it. If a little late. That meant leaving work a little earlier than normal to make sure that we picked Bridget up at the right time. We ended up being a little bit early, but that’s better than being a little bit late.
She did well, it seems, and so did I. I got a little teary as we were pulling away in the morning, but earlier everything had been so rushed that I didn’t have too much time to think about it. I ended up feeling a little guilty that I didn’t feel terrible and guilty about it. How messed up is that?
Now, we just need her to fall asleep for the night. She’s a little overtired and fighting us ever so slightly. It’ll be my shift again soon.
The gallery is now back completely. After an update gone awry, I’ve finally got it back to where it needs to be.
The gallery is coming along. I’ve finally gotten back to it. I’ll probably have some of the pictures back up tonight or tomorrow, starting with the cottage trip or the California trip over the summer. We’ll see. I’ve got to get the layout and colors together before I do any of that.
