the dust has settled
So we have now completed our second server move in two weeks, and everything has calmed down. The email is working properly (it's a step in the right direction that it's working at all after our last hosting service), I've got some other programs working properly (I had some issues with other things that I have hosted, but finally got those all worked out), and all the databases are working correctly.

Whew.

Everything should be propagated and if you email us, it will get to us now. Thanks to lunarpages for the reliable hosting at a reasonable price. We'll have to see how well it goes over the long term, but it certainly couldn't be any worse.

Anyway, like Jess said, Bridget went on her first plane ride over the weekend. Pictures can be found in the gallery, both in the Bridget gallery (for just the pictures of Bridget) and the family gallery that includes all of the sightseeing pictures and pictures of the rest of the family.

are you ready to blast off?

Bridget had her first plane ride this weekend. We went to Texas to visit Brendan's brother's family. She did really well. More photos and tales are coming...

back in the day
I was a little bored this evening; Bridget was (and is) sleeping (for now anyway), Brendan wass working (we left work early today because of the weather), and there really wasn't anything on TV. What did I decide to do? Things that I should (like laundry or dishes or general picking up)? No. Instead I decided to take a look around myspace to see who I could find. I'm not generally all that into the whole deal -- I have a whopping 8 friends -- but like I said, I was bored.

No one interesting from my high school struck me. I mean, there are some of the usual suspects, but no one that I'd really want to get back in touch with (except for the one person I already have). So I branched out a little and found some of the kids that I hung out with at the YMCA -- a couple of them are MCs and my first "real" boyfriend is their beat maker. I haven't really listened to it all fully yet, so I can't offer an opinion. But I think it's safe to say that they are better than any of the rappers on TWRS!

It's weird. When I was going to the Leader's Club at the Y, I was able to be much more outgoing than I currently am. Ask me to talk to a stranger now, and forget it. I'll try my damnedest to get around or out of it. I had very little problems with those types of things then. My cousin and I were founding members. We organized and ran dances. We sold Christmas trees. I went to camp and met tons of new people and forced myself to do things with people that I didn't even know. I can't see myself doing that now.

I'll be the first to admit, being in a club at the Y sounds dorky (What's dorkier: Y club or marching band?), but those were some good times. And really if I could somehow get back to that person that I was able to be then, maybe I wouldn't be whining so much about how I don't have any friends.

More Dust
So the hosting move didn't work out as planned. I've changed everything back to the old server now. The only thing that could be a problem is our email. If your local DNS hasn't updated their cache, then you could get some bouncebacks until it's resolved. It should be fine in a day or so. Sorry about this. At some point we may be switching again, but that was such a horrendous experience, I'm willing to deal with some email problems for a while.

squeak

Early this morning, I heard the cats running upstairs, chasing something. It's not unusual -- they're cats. Maybe they found one of their many toys that are scattered around the house (most are under one couch) or maybe Bettis was getting on Ella's nerves so she decided she wasn't going to take it anymore.

But then I heard a squeaking noise. It definitely sounded alive. After a little convincing, I got Brendan up to take a look. They had chased a little mouse upstairs. Thanks guys for bringing it into our room. Couldn't they have been happy "playing" with it downstairs somewhere instead of next to my dresser?

Brendan cornered it in the bathroom, then scooped it up into a shoebox (still alive mind you) and took it outside. I think I saw it crawling on the outside of the basement window this morning.

I don't mind so much when they chase the wierd cricket bugs in our basement in the summer, but a mouse is a little different. At least Ella didn't bring it to us as a present. We're going to Texas in a few weeks to visit with Brendan's brother, so maybe we'll have some exterminators come in while were away.

good times
We had actual grown ups over for dinner last Saturday. David and his girlfriend Carolyn came over for dinner, and although Brendan burnt the chicken, I spilt a little beer (I HAD BEER!), I totally lost at poker and Brendan might have deafened David -- I think everyone had a good time.

The first time I met David, I was convinced that we were never going to see him again. We were up at a fraternity banquet in Boston just after we got married. Brendan hadn't seen him in a while so there was a lot of yelling "DUDE!" and arm punching. Then we found out he was living in Alexandria. "DUDE! CALL ME! DUDE!" Afterwards I was thinking he is so not calling you. Then, he ended up on our plane home. Definitely not calling. But obviously it didn't happen that way...

Pardon Our Dust...
We were having some severe email problems with our old host, who decided they just weren't going to try to fix them, so we've moved our hosting. It's in the middle of propagation right now, so you may or may not be seeing this. There may also be some problems along the way. I'll fix them as soon as I can.

Wonderful, isn't it?
